Sinagoga Nueva, Bochum, Alemania

A 17-meter synagogue dome is located next to Stadtpark, surrounded by walls of multilayer concrete. This creates an engaging interaction with the metallic reflecting dome of the neighboring planetarium.
The ensemble of the synagogue and communal center, consisting of three parts, forms a whole. The facade of the building is clad in natural stone from Israel and, thus, resembles the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
The Star of David is used as a decoration for the facade, which clearly indicates the religious function of the building. A series of overlapping stars creates a kind of holographic effect, while the relief of protruding and recessed rows of stones resembles the local typical brickwork.

Inside, the room measures 17 x 17 meters and is 16 meters high, with a suspended dome. The curved golden canopy has a diameter of 15 meters. It gives the space a festive and transcendent feel. In the peak of the dome, directly above the ark, the most important place in the synagogue, there is an opening that allows light to enter the space from the zenith.
The prayer room faces east through large windows. Triangular openings pierce the solid exterior walls on the north, east, and south. They correspond to the relief of the facade and can be interpreted as a frieze consisting of David's stars. The interior is mainly characterized by the Ark of the Covenant and the ark.
