The East Park Towers and the Georgian Revival Style

Explore the 1923 East Park Towers in Chicago, a Georgian Revival apartment building featuring terra cotta belt courses and Palladian windows.

Located at 5236-5252 S. Hyde Park Boulevard in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, the East Park Towers is a historic apartment building. Constructed in 1922-23 during a period of residential growth in Hyde Park, the building was designed by architect William P. Doerr in the Georgian Revival style.

The first floor features terra cotta belt courses, quoins, and Palladian windows. While the building had no guest rooms, the apartments offered amenities similar to an apartment hotel, such as housekeeping service. These types of apartments were popular as part-time housing for wealthy workers, combining in-home service with the affordability of apartments.

The East Park Towers was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 14, 1986.
