The Mermaid Tots of Beantown: A Riotous Dip in Boston's Public Garden's Triton

Got a hankering for a fin-tastic swim? Wanna tag along with Anna Coleman Ladd's playful Triton Babies in Boston's Public Garden?

Situated smack in the middle of Boston's Public Garden, the Triton Babies sculpture has been tickling our senses since 1922. A generous gift from Mrs. Boylston Beal, this charming piece of bronze artwork depicts a pair of mini mermaid babes, one a young dude and the other a lady. Approximately 2.3 feet tall, 19 inches wide, and 39 inches long, these Triton Babies soak up the sun on a sturdy pedestal roughly spanning 2.6 feet long, 18 inches wide, and 31 inches high. As part of the Smithsonian Institution's 'Save Outdoor Sculpture!' program in 1993, these aren't just any run-of-the-mill sea cherubs; they're a cherished part of the park, a testament to the creative vision and whimsy of their creator, Anna Coleman Ladd.
