Unexpected towers: Två myror in the heart of Stockholm

Två myror is a sculpture group by artist Torgny Larsson at the intersection of Birger Jarlsgatan and Rådmansgatan in Östermalm, Stockholm. The sculpture group consists of two large bronze myrtons, each bearing a 12-meter-high metal-coated steel rod. The sculpture, located in front of Wallenstams AB's Stockholm office, is a project of Society Culture and Vision. The idea and initiation for this sculpture come from Daniel Kraus of Society Culture and Vision.

Torgny Larsson began modeling the myrtons in 2011, after detailed studies of the wood ant, Formica rufa, at the Natural History Museum in Stockholm. The bronze myrtons were cast by art foundry Adrian Andreescu and Ioanid Ovidiu at Pogany Art. The 12-meter-high metal-coated steel rods were metal-coated in Romania. A large black diabase block, totaling over 14 tons, that forms the base comes from Brobygranit in Skåne. These black diabase blocks were originally a massively cut block.

The sculpture was completed in the spring of 2014. A total of over 50 people and a total of 10 companies contributed to the project.
