Three Crosses Monument: Site of Ancient Relics on Crooked Hill, Vilnius

The Three Crosses monument, known as Trijų Kryžių in Lithuanian, stands on the Hill of Three Crosses (Trijų Kryžių kalnas) in the historic center of Vilnius. The monument consists of three white reinforced concrete crosses, each reaching a height of approximately 12 meters. The site has a rich history, dating back to ancient times. The Franciscan martyrs associated with the Hill of Three Crosses in Vilnius refer to a group of friars persecuted during the pagan era of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Tradition holds that seven Franciscan friars were executed on the hill during the reign of Grand Duke Algirdas (r. 1345–1377), a period marked by tensions between emerging Christianity and entrenched pagan practices.
