Tom in Manhattan: Jefferson's Sardonic Stride

Thomas Jefferson, a towering, sarcastic figure, rides out from a journalism school in Manhattan. Bronze Tom, cast from plaster in 1901, is ready to hear scandals that would rock early America.

A 14-foot-tall, sardonic statue of Thomas Jefferson, named 'Bronze Tom', steps out from the School of Journalism at Columbia University in Manhattan, New York. Created by the New York-based foundry, Roman Bronze Works, in 1914, the statue was modeled in plaster in 1901. Known informally as Columbia's Bronze Tom, it's no joking matter.
