A Giant Tale in Lowville: The Lewis County Soldiers' & Sailors' Monument

Drop by the picturesque town of Lowville and you'll stumble upon a towering chap, the Lewis County Soldiers' & Sailors' Monument. Carved in 1883, this fella stands tall as pride, saluting those who buckled down for the fight in the American Civil War.

Standing as high as 20 blokes piled atop each other, this antique, fabricated by the Monumental Bronze Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut, is a sight to behold. Initially fashioned into five pieces - a three-terraced pedestal, a plinth, a trumpet-like shaft, a swanky dome, and finally, a soldier adorning the top. In the year of 2009, it received a well-deserved slot on the National Register of Historic Places, making it a must-stop for every history-loving drifter passing through Lowville.
