Established in 1753 by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Stockholm Observatory marked growing European interest in accurate celestial measurements. Advocated by Per Elvius Jr, the Academy’s secretary from 1744, the Observatory opened, designed by architect Carl Hårleman. The following decades saw it migrate from its original site in the heart of Stockholm to its present location at the AlbaNova University Centre.
