The wooden marvel of Pocasset, MA – that fire couldn't shoo

In Pocasset, Massachusetts, there's a wooden lighthouse that swears it can outlast wildfires. Among all the stone relics, it's the odd man out, and it's got a tale to tell about its fiery escapades.

On the coast of Bourne, Massachusetts, you'll find an oddity – The Wing's Neck Light. Back in 1849, there was just another lighthouse here, made of stone and wood. But in 1878, disaster struck – a raging fire swept through it, leaving nothing but ashes behind. 'So, not a chance,' said this lighthouse, built of sturdier stuff. 'Not following the rules my game,' it seemed. By 1889, it was back, like a phoenix, reborn with the same plucky spirit. It's one of only two surviving wooden lighthouses in the US since 1987. So, when you're strolling down Wing's Neck Road, take a minute to give a nod to this tenacious wooden lighthouse. Its tale of endurance is a sign that sometimes, the odds just gotta fold.
