Powstancow Warszawy St 12/14, 81-718 Sopot, Poland
The Grand Hotel, originally called the Kasino Hotel was opened in 1927 and meant to transform Sopot into the ”Monaco of the Baltic”. The millionaire playboys came here to party and gamble. Some say, one of the nereby streets became known as a suicide alley - those who had lost their fortune would often finish their lives in this street.
During WWII Adolf Hitler stayed at the hotel suites 251-253 while waiting for the fall of Warsaw. He was accompanied by several high-ranking Nazis including von Ribbentrop and Bormann. Rumors say that the movie crew of the German Titanic ( https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0036443/) stayed here as well while filming in nearby Gdynia.
Other famous guests of the hotel include Alfonso XIII King of Spain, Charles Aznavour, Fidel Castro, Charles de Gaulle, Annie Lennox, Greta Garbo, Vladimir Putin, Demis Roussos, Omar Sharif, Boney M, and many more.
