Portland's Forgotten Steed: Winter Rider No. 2 Spotted on the Transit Mall

Got your head in the clouds on Portland's Transit Mall? There's a hidden gem up there - meet its lesser-known sister rider.

Pop by lovely Portland, and you'd miss some treasures, mate. As you roam the Transit Mall, take a peek skyward and spot a forgotten grande dame. I'm talking about Winter Rider No. 2, a masterpiece crafted by our very own American artist, James Lee Hansen. This spot's perfect for relaxing, chilling, and a bit of people-watching. You might have rubbed elbows with her brother on Taylor and Sixth, but this is the sister, and she's worth every step, that's certain. Commissioned in 2003 and towering a magnificent 7 feet tall, she found her permanent home on the Transit Mall in 2010. Currently on loan as part of the Transit Mall's Northwest sculpture collection, she belongs to the Douglas Goodman family and keeps company at the intersection of SW 6th Avenue and Taylor Street. Pop by for a visit, and you might even bump into someone else admiring her, too.
