The forgotten island of Orenín

Orenín is the remains of the ancient Alavese municipality of Orenín, which belonged to the old Alavese municipality of Gamboa. During the Middle Ages, the settlement of Orenín was located on the left bank of the river Ebro, which was a crucial waterway providing the necessary resources for agriculture and fishing. The ruins found on the island today include the remains of a village, which may have included a church, a mill, and several houses. Unfortunately, many of the buildings on the island have collapsed over time, and today only a few fragments remain. The island is mostly covered with a dense vegetation that makes it a shelter for various species of birds. Orenín can be visited with a guided tour, which is organized by the local authorities.
