A Journey Home: The Reunited Moai Brothers

Born in the 1960s, the Moai brothers ventured from the enchanting lands of Easter Island, finding a new home in the heart of England, a creation of British artist, Lynn Chadwick.

Imagine, if you will, the Moai brothers, affectionately known as 'The Watchers', entities born with the creative touch of Lynn Chadwick. Inspired by the mystical Moai statues from Easter Island, they first found their roots in Roehampton University, London, then basking in the warmth of the Alton Estate in Wandsworth. Time passed, and amidst the rustle of leaves and the whispers of the wind, three of these brothers stood proudly. Yet, in 2006, the unimaginable happened.

A brother was taken, leaving behind a sense of loss, a wave of sadness, and a veil of uncertainty. But amid the gloom, a spark of hope glimmered. In the year 2014, that hope became a reality when the University was given permission by Mr. Chadwick’s estate to recast the missing figure, returning it to its original haven. Today, these brothers, once fractured but now whole, continue to stand proudly in their English garden, a testament to their roots and the incredible journey they've traveled.
