Originally, the Alcazaba occupied the entire hill, but only a part remains preserved by the 1990s. The Alcazaba holds historic significance due to its role in Spain's history, as it served as a refuge for King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile during the siege of Almeria.
