Temple of Apollo in Riez

The Temple of Apollo in Riez, France is a remarkable remnant of Roman architecture. Built in the 1st century AD, it still stands today with four monolithic granite columns and an intricately carved limestone architrave. The columns support a structure that sits near the Colostre, and were designed to enhance the temple's polychrome decorations. The architrave is a part of the decorations. When excavations were conducted in 1963, some decorations were found broken, hinting at a violent or fatal event that took place long ago.
