The Greek Revival Style of Salisbury House

The Greek Revival Style of Salisbury House

Constructed between 1836 and 1838, the Salisbury House stands as a notable historic building in Worcester.

Located at 61 Harvard Street in Worcester, Massachusetts, the Salisbury House is a two-story wood-frame structure. The building was constructed between 1836 and 1838 by Stephen Salisbury II, the son of Worcester merchant Stephen Salisbury I. The elder Salisbury's 18th-century mansion stands nearby.

The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. It features a design finished in flushboarded wood treated to resemble stone. While the house is a Greek Revival building, the specific identity of its designer remains a point of historical disagreement.

Attribution for the building's design is given to either Elias Carter or Isaiah Rogers. These two figures are the primary names associated with the construction of the house.
