St Paul's Church in Shadwell

St Paul's Church, in Shadwell, East End of London, was rebuilt in 1669. It's known as the ‘Church of Sea Captains' due to its long history of serving nautical communities. At least 75 sailors have found their final resting place here. Matthew Mead served as minister from 1658 to 1662, and the church was used as a plague pit during the Great Plague of London. John Wesley, Captain James Cook, Captain Arthur Phillip's father, Jacob Phillip, William Henry Perkin, the chemist who discovered the first aniline dye, and Jane Randolph, mother of Thomas Jefferson, were all baptised at St Paul's Church.
