Treading the Gleaming Floors of Yesteryear: The Capitol Theatre Center,

Take a gander at the enchantment and elegance of this vintage theater, now bustling as a community arts hub in Chambersburg, PA.

Right smack on South Main Street, downtown Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, the Capitol Theatre Center made its grand entrance on February 3, 1927 – a masterpiece birthed by the Pottstown, PA Theatre Company, and brought to life by the hands of Quigley Hafer. This baby stood tall and proud as the shiniest theater in town, and it didn't take long before it caught everyone's eye. Fast forward to 1948 – the place got a complete makeover, featuring adding air conditioning and a shift towards a performing arts center, aiming for a wider cultural community.

By 1996, the Capitol underwent a seven-year overhaul, wrapping up in 2003. The original charm was meticulously preserved during this facelift, with upgraded stages, revamped auditoriums, hydraulic lifts for the organ console, and spiffy new lighting boxes. These days, the Capitol Theatre Center is now the residence of the Chambersburg Community Theatre, hosting a selection of performances, concerts, and charitable events all year round. It's hard to find many theaters in the U.S.

that still got their original Möller theater pipe organ, adding an old-timey allure to each visit. Alas, we can't hop in a time machine and jet off to the 1920s, but a trip to the Capitol Theatre Center is the next best thing – a stunning journey back to a time of sophistication and grace.
