Robert Burns, Scotland's national bard, a Scottish wee lad known for his works likit 'Auld Lang Syne', ya wouldn't expect tae find his likeness loungin' in Wisconsin, but there's a bronze beasty in Burns Commons, mere steps off the Milwaukee River, that proves the exception. This chap was the craft o' Scottish sculptor, William Grant Stevenson, with a wee bit o' help from James Bryden, a Scotsman who made his donuts in Milwaukee's grain trade. erected in 1909, this hunk o' metal hefts aweigh 30 tons, an' stands tall at 23 feet on a granite plinth, with bronze tableaus documenting Burns' life. Burns himself is depicted in full bard bravado, quill behind his ear, pad in hand. This concrete-topped colossus still respects Burns' lasting legacy, amidst Wisconsin's heart, Milwaukee.
