Cass Street Playground: A Whimsical Blast of Creativity

Drop by Cass Street Park in Milwaukee, where Marina Lee's fantastical works have transformed the usual playground into a delightful, artistic adventure, captivating visitors of all stripes and ages.

Steppin' into Cass Street Park, you'll be struck by a jolly Cheshire Cat-inspired gateway arch – or as I like to call it, a wild welcome committee. It's a menagerie of misfit critters down there, a dragon, a bird with a funny bone, and some wise-crackin' light poles. These colorful chaps sport a kaleidoscope of hues that get your imagination hummin' and tug at your memories' heartstrings. The dragon, standin' tall at eighteen feet, is a towering entity of vibrant greens, purples, and blues.

The cat, if it were to stroll upright, would have legs as wacky as the arch itself, while its zigzaggin' tail'd twirl on down one. The bird takes the trophy, with a pink noggin and a bright yellow beak, its spawnin' of pink stripes from head to toe. Lastly, the light poles – each thirteen feet tall – are fiberglass behemoths with fancy heads on their globes. The park's bordering on Cass Street Elementary School, and serves as a playground. In 1998, it earned the Mayor’s Design Award, so it ain't all just child's play.
