Prato Cathedral: Expanded for the Sacra Cintola relic

During the 14th century, Prato Cathedral was expanded to house the Sacra Cintola relic, a belt believed to have been given to the Virgin Mary by Saint Thomas the Apostle.

The Prato Cathedral, also known as the Duomo di Prato or Cattedrale di Santo Stefano, is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Prato, Italy. It was built in the 10th century, and was later expanded from the late 14th century to accommodate the Sacra Cintola relic, a belt believed to have been given to the Virgin Mary by Saint Thomas the Apostle. This expansion included the addition of a transept, attributed to Giovanni Pisano, and the construction of the Cintola Chapel, completed around 1390. The chapel houses the Sacra Cintola and features notable frescoes from the 14th and 17th centuries.
