The monument "The First Settler" or "the man with the horse," as the locals call it.
The monument is dedicated to the founders and first inhabitants of the city and symbolizes two aspects in the fate of the first settlers of Penza — the defense of the southeastern borders of the Russian state from raids by steppe nomads in the second half of the 17th century and peasant labor.
The monument was erected in 1980. The author of the monument is sculptor Valentin Grigorievich Kozenyuk. Architect — Yu. V. Komarov.
