Back in 2013, on the 21st of September, Scottish sculptor Jean Doyle unveiled her 9-foot-tall bronze statue of the former South African president, Nelson Mandela, right across from the South African Embassy in Washington D.C. This towering work of art soars an impressive 3 meters into the capital's sky. To the locals, it's affectionately dubbed 'the laddie', a nod to Mandela's status as a world icon. Doyle managed to create a visually striking tribute to the former president, making it a sight well worth exploring when wandering the nation's capital.
