The Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of the Holy Saviour, commonly known as the Cathedral of San Salvador, stands in the heart of Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. Over a millennia, it offers a unique blend of architectural styles, from Pre-Romanesque to Baroque, including Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance elements. King Alfonso II of Asturias ordered the church's construction in the 8th century, with the present edifice commissioned by Bishop Gutierre of Toledo in 1388 and further enhanced by Cardinal Francisco Mendoza de Bobadilla in 1528. The oldest surviving structure is the Cámara Santa, a relic of the primitive pre-Romanesque royal complex.
