The ruins of Linlithgow Palace are located in the town of Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland, 15 miles (24 km) west of Edinburgh. Built in 1302 under Edward I of England, the palace was a royal manor in the 12th century and later expanded by David II. The palace went through many alterations and additions, eventually becoming a five-story palace for James I in 1424. The castle served as a residence for Scottish royalty for centuries. Today, it stands as a ruin, a visitor attraction in the care of Historic Environment Scotland.
