Hoosier Hill: Indiana's Highest Point, Owned by a Scout

Visit the highest point in Indiana and take a load off at Hoosier Hill. Bring your own picnic!

Hoosier Hill, Indiana's highest natural point, sits at approximately 1,255 feet (382.67 meters) above sea level. The hill, though, is a subject of debate as the data used is outdated. Modern tools estimate a more accurate height. Hoosier Hill is located in Franklin Township, in Wayne County, nestled in the rural countryside. The closest intersection is Elliot Road and County Line Road, while Interstate 70 and Richmond are 11 miles (18 kilometers) to the south. The private property, owned by Kim E. Goble, was built up by an Eagle Scout candidate, Kyle Cummings, back in 2005. Historically, A.H. Marshall, the first person to conquer all 48 contiguous U.S. state highpoints, set foot on Hoosier Hill in 1936. The wooden sign proclaiming 'INDIANA'S HIGHEST POINT' was frequently stolen, so it was replaced by an engraved boulder in 2016. Come visit Hoosier Hill for a scenic view.
