Huggin' on the Highways: Monroe's 52-Foot 'Lux Mundi' Jesus

At the Solid Rock Church in Monroe, Ohio, USA, you'll find a 52-foot tall Jesus statue. Known affectionately as 'Hug Me Jesus', it's more than just a religious icon. A replacement for a fire-stricken predecessor, it was unveiled in October 2012, designed by the talented Tom Tsuchiya.

The 'Light of the World', or 'Lux Mundi' for the latin aficionados, stands strong and welcoming at the Solid Rock Church in Monroe, Ohio, USA. Standing 52 feet high, this mammoth Jesus statue is the charming replacement for an earlier model, King of Kings, which took a hit from ol' Mother Nature, namely a strike of lightning in 2010, all culminating in a fiery conclusion. This new chap, aptly designed by the one and only, Tom Tsuchiya, portrays our Savior striding forward with such a warm, inviting expression that it's earned the loveable nickname 'Hug Me Jesus'.

Sitting upon a foundation bedecked with a soothing cascade of water, this statue serves as a tranquil sanctuary for passersby. Composed of polymer composite and steel, the designer, quite thoughtfully, incorporated flame-resistant materials and even a lightning-suppression system to ensure safety and peace of mind. The primary construction of this darling was handled by Display Dynamics from the charming town of Clayton, Ohio, and she was dedicated on the 10th of October 2012.
