Red-Stoned Relic on Wigan Road: Hidden in Plain Sight

In the rural landscape of Wigan Road, Chorley, lies Euxton Parish Church. This church, constructed by the Molyneux family in the 14th century, was a hidden gem, a chapel of ease to St Andrew’s Church, Leyland. It was later transferred to the Church of England during the late 17th or early 18th century. The initials of one of the Molyneux family, who rebuilt the church about 1513, can be found on a date stone on the church. The exterior of the church resembles the oldest parts of neighbouring 14th-century church in Eccleston. The churchyard contains the war grave of an airman of World War II.
