Buried in Time: The Archeological Witness of Eiguliai

Eiguliai hillfort, situated in Neries, Kaunas, can be found near Kaunas clinics and Jonavos Street (no. 154). Constructed around the Vokiečiū ordino (1253) during the Iron Age, the hillfort features a diameter of approximately 70 x 60 m and a height of about 5-6 m. Its eastern and northern sides rise higher, with a difference of about 50 m. Access the hillfort via entrances from the south and west. Visitors can learn about the hillfort's archaeological history on a new informative plaque. Excavations conducted in 1935-1938, 1954, and 1962 revealed artifacts from the prehistoric era, the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age within the hillfort. Archaeological studies were led by Jonas Puzinas and involved forty-seven stone-lined and four stone-free vaults. The stone-lined vaults contained pieces of stone, while the stone-free vaults contained skeletons.
