The historic buildings of the Rocky Hill Center Historic District

Explore the historic district of Rocky Hill, home to 18th and 19th-century architecture and the 1808 Rocky Hill Congregational Church

Welcome to the Rocky Hill Center Historic District, a place where the past is preserved in its residential and civic architecture. The district features a fine collection of mainly 18th and 19th-century buildings, many of which were built before 1850. These structures offer a look into the area's history, which grew as a major port following a flood of the Connecticut River in 1700.

Iconic buildings here include the 1808 Rocky Hill Congregational Church and the public library built in 1967. The town hall was established in 2000 and partly includes an older wood-frame structure from 1916. The district also preserves the Academy Hall, an 1803 schoolhouse that now serves as a local history museum.

One of the oldest buildings in the district is the c. 1710 Captain David Riley House, a two-story three-bay Georgian structure. While many of the 232 historically significant buildings are residences, the district remains a testament to the town's maritime and agrarian past before it developed its suburban character in the 20th century.
