Red Mountain's Bleached Bone: A Silver Lining Emerging After 26 Years

Red Mountain's Bleached Bone: A Silver Lining Emerging After 26 Years

In 2006, on North Carolina's Red Mountain in Rougemont, Castle Mont Rouge - part slideshow of ambition, part silence of despair - slept. Will a man's unsung symphony rouse it in 2014?

Perched at the peak of Red Mountain in the backwater town of Rougemont, North Carolina, Castle Mont Rouge - a dance of dreams and ruins - stares down at the world below since 2000. American sculptor Robert Mihaly began its construction in a fit of creative tantrum, but circumstances silenced the project in 2006. Resting in its crypt for a decade and a half, Mihaly unexpectedly resurrected the vision in 2017, nudging the project forward, and aiming to unveil the castle's final act in 2014. You can almost hear the stone cringe at the possibility.
