Operation: Relocate the Sally-Billy House

Operation: Relocate the Sally-Billy House

This 1804 structure didn't start its life on Fishing Club Road, but it managed to relocate there in the 1970s.

Listen up. We have a situation involving the Sally-Billy House. This piece of architecture was established in Halifax County, North Carolina, around 1804. It features weatherboard siding on a two-story, one-bay, pedimented central block. It is flanked by two-bay, one-story wings. It looks like early 19th-century architecture, which is basically the OG tactical design for housing.

The objective changed in 1973 when it secured a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. Even though it got some fancy paperwork, the structure decided it needed a change of scenery. It started moving around like a civilian trying to dodge a checkpoint.

In December 1974, the transport team hauled the house to its current position on Fishing Club Road. It is currently stationed there for anyone who wants to inspect the architecture up close. Mission accomplished. It stays on site until further notice.
