Mansion Truss Bridge: Twenty-Two Years Over Staunton, Then Gone

In 1903, the Camelback Mansion Truss Bridge graced Campbell County's Staunton River. Yet, it vanished in 2005, surviving for 18 years, registered for historic preservation in 1978, and removed in 1999.

Built in 1903, the Camelback Mansion Truss Bridge stood tall over Campbell County's Staunton River, named after John Ward's mansion - the old Mansion (now Altavista). The bridge had a lifespan of 18 years, becoming a resident of the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. On a dark note, it was dismantled in 1999 and vanished completely by 2005.
