Carl Milles conceived the Grieving Father on the Rainbow in 1946 as a peace monument and a tribute to the establishment of the United Nations. Intended for the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, the project was eventually abandoned, leading to the statue being cast in Stockholm. The sculpture is a striking depiction of a grieving father standing on a 18-meter high parabolic-shaped arch, serving as a landmark in Nacka Strand, Stockholm. The statue was unveiled in 1995.
