Eternal Abandonment: A Pitstop on Route 179

Eternal Abandonment: A Pitstop on Route 179

Once a bustling agricultural hub, Canton Center now whispers from the grave, clinging to the edge of Route 179.

Canton Center, a spectral relic of past glories, settled on the National Register of Historic Places. Sprawled across 500 acres of rural land, 84 ancient buildings stand - federal to Victorian era relics. The Caleb Case House, a lone survivor born in 1785, stands alone as the last piece of the puzzle from days long gone. It's a mournful landscape, a burial ground for the bones of an old church, store, and schools. Time has granted new faces to this ghost town - witnesses and school, Jehovah's Witnesses hall and the Cherry Brook School built in 1941. But the spectral presence endures.
