Standing lonely on the Illinois plains, a granite Campbell's Island State Memorial. It gazes over a battlefield drenched in two centuries of history. The July 19, 1814, battle, while often overlooked, significantly shaped the War of 1812. Erected in 1908, the memorial is now under the watchful eye of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. It was refurbished in 2018, but the re-dedication ceremony, initially set for September 2018, was washed away and eventuality held in September 2020.
