A transformation through time: the enigma of Strömsrum

Strömsrum, an estate located at the confluence of Alsterån in Ålem, Mönsterås commune, has a rich and complex history.Originally built in 1761 by landlord Carl Rappe, the corps-de-logi's imposing timbered walls and high, slate-covered mansard roof showcase the region's ancient carpentry art. Although the southern wing was initially unpainted, it was later painted yellow.Unfortunately, the northern wing burnt down in 1922, erasing all associated buildings from the estate's history. Strömsrum's history can be traced back to 1312, with the estate passing through the hands of the Bielke family, Sten Sture the Elder, and King Gustav Vasa, among others. In addition to the main estate, there remains evidence of kastalers (stone castles) near Alsteråns mynning, which date back to the 11th and 13th centuries. The purpose of these kastalers remains unclear.
