An ancient tower above Usk

An ancient dovecote tower in Usk Castle, a historic castle site in Monmouthshire, South-East Wales, stands tall above the castle walls. Usk Castle, known as Castell Brynbuga, was likely established by Norman conquerors in the 12th century, and the dovecote tower was likely built during the same period. However, Usk Castle was captured twice by the Welsh, in 1138 and 1174. Despite the conflicts, the dovecote tower endured, as Usk Castle passed to the Duchy of Lancaster after the Owain Glyndŵr rebellion. Today, the remains of Usk Castle are substantial, with the dovecote tower still standing tall among them. Visitors can learn about the castle's history and see the dovecote tower on select days each week.
