Abandoned 7th century church with the name of goat herders

The Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Rompon, often called the 'Couvent des Chèvres', is located in Pouzin, France. Originally, a church may have existed on this location as early as the 7th century, but definitively the abbey exists from 1112, when it was rebuilt in a Roman style. Today, it stands as a silent relic of the past, where visitors often imagine the goat herders who once occupied the site, giving the abbey its local nickname, 'Couvent des Chèvres', or 'abbey of the goats'. The abbey is threatened by the expansion of quarries operated by the Delmonico-Dorel company.
