In the heart of the town, back in 1896, our cherished banker, R.A, dreamt of a grand mansion. He shared this vision with the brilliant architectural firm of Liebbe, Nourse & Rasmussen. With a stroke of creativity, they wove a marvelous architecture, blending the Queen Anne and Neoclassical styles, crafting a wonder, nestled in a district pulsating with grand residences. Brick and limestone stringcourses, adorning the opulent structure, came alive, enhanced with two towers crowned with conical rooftops, as the stories speak. Our timeless legacy, birthed in 1896, underwent a transformation six years later, becoming a funeral home. Today, it stands, a beacon on the National Register of Historic Places, a tribute to its enduring influence on the history of Des Moines. Time slows down here, allowing us to bask in the grandeur, the nostalgia, and the enchanting allure of yesteryears.
