The Bell Labs Holmdel Complex, now known as Bell Works, is a historic research and development facility in Holmdel Township, New Jersey. Designed by Eero Saarinen and completed in 1962, the centerpiece of the campus is a modernist structure featuring a facade of black anodized aluminum and reflective glass. Its mirrored exterior led to it being dubbed the biggest mirror ever. The building contains approximately 2 million square feet spread across six stories.
Originally serving the Bell System and later Bell Labs from 1962 to 2007, the complex was designed to accommodate growing technological research needs. The interior features four pavilions connected by passageways on the building's perimeter, surrounding a large cross-shaped atrium. The site was landscaped by Sasaki Associates, featuring a layout that resembles a keyhole when viewed from the air, including elliptical roads, trees, and two artificial lakes.
In 2006, the building was put up for sale and underwent renovations to become a multi-purpose living and working space. Since 2013, it has been operated by Somerset Development as a mixed-use development for high-tech startup companies. The complex is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has served as a filming location for several television series and films, including Severance and Law & Order: Organized Crime.
