The Oversized Victor in NYC: A Laugh at Squabbling Bugs

In New York City, an imposing figure, the personification of mockery, towers victorious over its sqabbling inhabitants beneath.

This statue, named 'Virtue Triumphant Over Unrighteousness', was a whim of Mayor George B. McClellan Jr, bankrolled by Angelina Crane. Created by the hands of two artists, William MacMonnies and Thomas Hastings, it stands resolute and unyielding, casting a dark shadow over two squirming figures representing 'Vice' and 'Corruption'. Underneath, the sirens, writhing like trapped cats, are visible as separate figures, locked in a never-ending battle for supremacy.
