Pequot's Tiny Treasure Hole: Connecticut

Buried deep, Connecticut's Pequot hides a fortune, walled off by the crumbling remnants of antiquated homes and stone obstacles

In the year Domini 1666, the Pequot tribe was gifted 3,000 acres. By the Domini 1856, that had dwindled to mere 216 acres. Fast forward to the 1970s, and the Pequot fought - and won - a lawsuit to reclaim their land, reclaiming more than 2,000 acres. Digging within their reservation uncovered over 15 fascinating sites, dating back to the 16th century, punctuated by stone craftsmanship. To the Pequot, their entire reservation is an archaeological minefield, demanding a careful examination before any construction begins.
