Construction of Matineholm began in the 19th century on Snättringe farm's land and was later divided. In 1911, August Strindberg spent his last summer here. The house is now refurbished, but there is still August Strindberg written on a wall in a closet and remains of walls for boat mooring on the shore.
The small hill to the right of the staircase was once called Love Island and lay as a small island at the edge of Matineholm's beautiful park. Now the strait is filled in and the island has become a land-based hill, which is still used for both swimming and fishing. Adults must have fishing permits, but children may fish without them. From the shore, Allɺs Road leads away from the lake and towards Snättringe farm along Snäckvägen.
