In Cimarron National Grassland, at the Three-Way Corner, there's an odd trinket: a weather vane. But this ain't your ordinary vane - it pinpoints the tri-state junction of Kansas, Colorado, and Oklahoma. Locally, it's deemed a 'windmill' and was built in 1903, the monument being revamped in 1990. The vane, draped in steel, hides close to a Department of the Interior cadastral survey disk beside the tri-state corner monument. Finding this peculiar crossroads requires begging the road departments of all three states. Originally, another survey marker, furnished with a pointing arrow towards the tri-point, stood near the main monument. The area around this intriguing monument thrives with yucca, buffalo gourds, and serves as a home to mule deer, prairie dogs, and burrowing owls.
