The salvaged altarpiece that shares a church with its 164-year predecessor

Iglesia de San Juan Bautista (Church of St. John the Baptist) in Chiclana de la Frontera is a Neoclassical church. Construction on an earlier building began around 1510, but it wasn't completed by that time. The original church was demolished in the 18th century. A bas-relief of the altarpiece, dated to 1552 by the sculptor Roque Balduque and the painter Andrés Ramírez, was salvaged and incorporated into the new church, designed by Torcuato Cayón and completed in 1814.
