The Basilica of San Domenico, a striking blend of the Middle Ages and Renaissance architectural splendors, is more than an eye-catching sight. It's a treasure trove of invaluable art, history, and the hidden tales of its saints. The celebrated shrine, holding Guzman, the founder of the Dominicans, bears the signature of Nicola Pisano and his workshop, with Arnolfo di Cambio and later, Niccolò dell'Arca and the young Michelangelo lending their hands to its grandeur. The Arca, a centuries-old landmark, presents captivating depictions of Guzman's life and is embellished with precious metals and stones. Originally a burial ground, the square before the church now wears a medieval touch with pebbles underfoot. Herein, you'll come across the tombs of Rolandino de’ Passeggeri and Egidio Foscarari as well as a 1627-sculpted bronze statue of St. Dominic.
