The guardhouse, along with the infirmary and warehouses, was built in 1827 to accommodate and serve the needs of the Russian soldiers' garrison. The construction inevitably reflected the characteristic features of the Empire style, which dominated Russian architecture at the time. The stone guardhouse building effectively completed the reconstruction of the entire citadel. Given the complex terrain of the citadel, it was difficult to create an ensemble with a regular layout. However, the builders of the guardhouse skillfully utilized the relief. The artificial terraces, retaining walls, and stone staircases they created allowed the guardhouse to be seen from various angles when approaching from the eastern gates. This structure is a rectangular building with an arched gallery facing the sea. The main eastern facade of the guardhouse is of greatest interest; its gallery consists of five semicircular arches resting on square pillars with profiled capitals and an attic. The building was constructed from local stone on an artificially leveled platform as a rectangular building with a gallery on the main facade facing the sea. In its architectural forms, the guardhouse is a typical example of 19th-century Russian classicism. In the 20th century, this site was placed under state protection as a historical and architectural monument.
