The enterprise was founded by the "Nobel Brothers Petroleum Production Partnership" ("Branobel"). To maintain the fleet in good condition, the management of the "Branobel" Partnership decided to build ship repair workshops in Rybinsk. It was here in 1904 that the installation of the first engineering structure in Russia for lifting and launching ships into the water – a slipway – began, and by 1907, a ship was lifted ashore for the first time.

It was here in 1904 that the installation of the first engineering structure in Russia for lifting and launching ships into the water – a slipway – began, and already in 1907 the first ship was lifted ashore. This year is considered the founding year of the enterprise.

The enterprise seemed so promising to the owners that from 1908 to 1917 the shipyard built the very first Volga steamships – "Komar," "Shmel," "Tungus." In 1911, the first self-propelled vessel was built: the 25 hp inspection boat "Moshka." Before World War I, a powerful specialized oil tanker fleet emerged on the Volga, which was nationalized in February 1918. The Nobel brothers' vessels served the Soviet government until the 1950s.
