The colonial fortress of Castillo de San Felipe in Tenerife

Located 900 meters from the urban center of Puerto de la Cruz, the Castillo de San Felipe stands as a historic coastal fortress with a pentagonal shape and colonial style.

The Castillo de San Felipe is a defensive building located in the city of Puerto de la Cruz, in the north of the island of Tenerife. Situated on the coast at the mouth of the San Felipe ravine, it was one of the four forts that defended the city in ancient times. Construction began in 1599 on a site that had previously featured two platforms with small cannons, which had proved effective against a pirate attack by five ships. The fort was completed in 1604 and served as a defensive base against corsairs seeking refuge in the port.
